BHOJANAM EXPLANATION BY KANCHI PERIAVA

BHOJANAM EXPLANATION BY KANCHI PERIAVA

On auspicious occasions, like marriage, how do we eat? He asked his disciples.

When all items are served on the banana leaf, we eat. The disciples reply.

In what order do we eat, do you know? He asked.

We eat Sambhar first, then Rasam, then Payasam, Bakshanam, and finally Moru.. They said.

Why this order, do you know? He asked.

They kept quiet.

As soon as the leaf is spread, by looking at the green leaf, one should not think life is evergreen. So they sprinkle some water on it. Then they serve a little payasam, and opposite that pachadi. Do you know why?

We must think of Lord Rama born of payasam and of Lord Krishna, who is fond of milk and milk products.

First we are served “Kozhambu” which contains “Thaan”. As soon as we are born, and are old enough, “Thaan” – that is ‘Ahankaram’ gets into your mind. So we get confused (“kozhambi”).

Then we go to the next item i.e. Rasam – which is without any “thaan”. That is – clear liquid which indicates a clear mind. We clear our thoughts.

Afterwards, everything becomes sweet, like payasam and bakshanam.

Lastly – ‘moru’. How do we get moru? From milk, we get curd, then butter, then ghee. Lastly, what is left is ‘moru’. That is – after ‘moru’, nothing can be taken away. There is no janma after moru.

From this Bhojana Sampradayam, what do we learn?

We should also give up our ‘ahankaram’, clear our mind, lead a calm life, without giving trouble to others, be ‘sweet’ to everyone, and finally become one with God.

Then there is ‘nothing’ i.e. “No More”.

Every day, when we take our bhojanam, at least for a minute, we must think about this, then clasp the golden feet of the Lord.

By following this, we will achieve life’s ideal principles. 🙏🙏
